Why KID Museum

Education at a Crossroads

Today’s kids are growing up in the midst of dramatic technological change and political and economic uncertainty. Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how work gets done, how information is created, and how decisions are made across nearly every industry.

AI is transforming how we live and work. Students need the skills and mindsets to thrive in that new reality.

What We Believe

KID was established over a decade ago to address the growing disconnect between K-12 education and the changing world of work.

Our theory of change is grounded in a simple belief:
How students learn matters as much as what they learn.

When young people engage in hands-on, project-based learning – when they design, build, test, revise, and reflect – they develop durable skills that carry into school, work, and life.

We call this the Mind of a Maker. These are the human-centered capabilities that experts now recognize as essential in an increasingly digital and automated world.

Over the more than a decade, KID has partnered with schools, districts, and educators — reaching more than 430,000 people — to test and refine our model in real-world conditions.

Why this matters now.

The national conversation about AI and the future of work is accelerating. For more than a decade, KID has pioneered an evidence-backed approach to build both the tech and human-centered capabilities that the future demands – cultivating tech skills alongside creativity, collaboration, empathy, and agency. Demand for this combination of skills has never been greater.

Families are asking how their children will thrive in an automated world. Employers are redefining workforce expectations. Educators are searching for models that move beyond passive consumption toward active creation.

KID is revolutionizing teaching and learning for a fast-changing future.

What begins with a young person building, testing, and revising an idea can ripple outward – informing classroom instruction, shaping teacher practice, and influencing how educators think about their role in preparing students for the future.
