Adult Volunteers

We’re always looking for passionate volunteers to help us further our mission on- and off-site. If you share our vision of an equitable, collaborative future built by creativity and hands-on learning, you’ll be a perfect fit for our team.

KID Volunteers are invited to support public-facing programs and experiences, museum operations, behind-the-scenes administrative work, community outreach efforts, and more. We recruit on a rolling basis according to position availability, so you can apply anytime.

Program Information

Volunteer Opportunities

PROGRAMS:

  • Assist with our hands-on educational programs and visitor experiences!
      • Sunday Open Explore & other family events
      • Class, school, & group Field Trips
      • Weekly Summer Camps
      • School Days Out Camps
      • KID After-School Classes

OUTREACH:

    • Strengthen KID Museum’s community ties by supporting our outreach efforts!
          • Community festivals
          • Local sporting events
          • School STEM nights

ADMINISTRATION:

      • Help out with the day-to-day behind-the-scenes work that makes KID Museum possible.
            • Museum operations
            • Fundraising
            • Program development
            • Exhibit maintenance
            • Database organization
            • Graphic design
            • Photography
            • Blogging/social media

SKILL-SHARING:

      • Do you have a unique skill to showcase or deep professional knowledge to share? Team up with us to incorporate your skills into our program or to provide professional development behind-the-scenes.

Qualifications

      • Must be 18 years or older
      • Successfully complete background check & fingerprinting process
      • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19, including at least 1 booster shot
      • Willing to embrace and understand KID’s mission and values in support of open-ended, learner-driven educational experiences
      • Experience or interest in STEM or Maker education
      • Experience with any of the following:
        • Common woodworking tools (drills, saws, hammers, etc.)
        • 3D printing
        • Electronics & circuitry
        • Robotics & coding
        • Laser cutter
        • Sewing machines, looms, other fiber/textile crafting tools
        • Early childhood, elementary, or middle grade education
      • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
        • Able to communicate with a wide variety of audiences
        • Non-English fluency a plus
      • Flexible, reliable, and committed to KID
      • Other additional qualifications may be required for certain volunteer opportunities

Time Commitment

Time commitment and schedule varies by volunteer area. At the moment, KID is prioritizing hiring Program volunteers interested in supporting our Open Explore family programming on Sundays. Other program opportunities may arise shortly.

Open Explore Volunteer Information

Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 2 four-hour shifts per month. Sunday shifts are 9 AM – 1 PM or 12:30 – 4:30 PM at 3 Bethesda Metro Center in the heart of downtown Bethesda.

Upon successful completion of an interview and background check, you will be invited to an orientation and training session to begin your volunteer journey!
