Meet A Maker: Dasia Taylor

Join us on Sunday, June 4th from 10:30am-12:30pm to meet an amazing maker who embodies the values of KID Museum!

Learn about a young Black scientist named Dasia Taylor and how she started revolutionizing medicine at the age of 17 with household materials. Visitors can meet Dasia and explore suturing techniques using plastic embroidery needles and yarn. Visitors will ‘suture’ pieces of orange pleather to simulate the way Dasia taught herself how to suture – on an orange!

At the Materials Bar, visitors will see reactions occur when different materials of varying pH are applied to cabbage-primed paper. Materials (lemon juice, baking soda, soda ash) create vibrant color changes of pink, teal, and green, respectively when applied to the primed paper.  Visitors can create paintings utilizing markers that contain these 3 materials.
