Teen Volunteers

Apply NOW for Spring 2026!

Teen Volunteers at KID Museum assist in the facilitation of hands-on, STEM-based programming for younger children. We look for high schoolers who are excited about working with kids and want to gain experience in the fields of education or teaching.

You’ll support the work of KID Museum in our after-school programs, summer camps, and Sunday open museum hours.

Program Information

  • Facilitate hands-on programming for children ages 4 – 14
  • Receive training in fabrication skills, experiential STEM teaching, and inquiry-based learning
  • Earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours
  • Meet and work with other teens

Applications Due: 5 PM on Wednesday, November 26
30 minute group interviews: Monday, December 1 – Thursday, December 4 (to be conducted virtually)
Required On-site Training: Mid-December; dates to be finalized

The Basics

  • KID Museum volunteers work closely with museum educators to facilitate hands-on programming for children ages 4 – 14
  • Volunteers are trained to teach STEM and art-related activities, and learn how to interact with museum visitors
  • Optional professional development sessions in a selected discipline (such as woodworking or 3D printing) are offered throughout the year

Time Commitment

  • Mandatory training sessions before your first shift
  • Fall & Spring: Minimum of 12 hours per month (broken down into 3 shifts)
  • Summer: Minimum of 20 hours per month
  • Minimum of one semester (Spring, Summer, or Fall)
  • During the school year, volunteers work on weekends during regular museum hours
  • In summer, volunteers have the option of being a camp assistant at our weekly camps

  • Fall: All current high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Spring: All current high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Summer: All current and rising high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interest in working with kids
  • Interest in STEM, art, and creativity
