Be a KID with us as we invent, explore, and make our way through the summer! KID Museum’s camps are designed and led by our professional maker educators and develop real-world skills through fun, hands-on projects.

Summer Camps are available at both our Davis Library and Bethesda Metro Center locations.

It’s time to dive in and discover what you can make!

Week-Long Camps
Dates: June 20 – August 25, 2023* | 9am – 4pm
Grades: 2nd – 4th, 5th – 7th & 7th – 9th

*Camps will not be available during select weeks at either KID Museum location.

June 20 - 23

2nd – 4th Grade | Built to Move

How do we design and build things that move? Explore different forms of movement through creative build challenges that’ll have you climbing, spinning, and cycling in fun ways. Make automatons, water wheels, amusement park rides, and so much more.

5th – 7th Grade | Maker Mash-Up

What if we made our clothing out of cardboard or furniture out of feathers? Let’s find out! Get creative as you use wacky materials, unconventional designs, and fun fabrication techniques to tackle unique challenges.

June 26 - 30

2nd – 4th Grade | Wizard KIDs

Abra KIDabra, alakazam, welcome to KID’s wizarding camp! Explore all things wizardy as you design a custom wand, experiment with potions, and become a Wizard KID with maker skills in sewing, circuitry, and chemistry.

5th – 7th Grade | Movie Makers

Lights, camera, action! It’s time to become the writer, director, and producer of your very own movie. Storyboard ideas, build sets, sew costumes, and practice different filming methods to bring your story to life.

7th – 9th Grade | Community Service Camp

Looking for SSL hours this summer? Learn and use maker skills in woodworking, textiles, and more to build something that supports a local community organization. Portions of this camp may take place off-site at partner organizations. SSL hours are available for portions of this camp.

July 17 - 21

2nd – 4th Grade | KID Arcade

Head on down to the KID Arcade! Design and build your own versions of arcade games like pinball, claw machines, skee-ball, foosball, and more. You’ll learn new maker skills in cardboard construction, engineering, and design while collaborating with fellow campers to turn KID Museum into the coolest arcade ever!

5th – 7th Grade | Printmaking 101

What can’t you print? Explore all forms of printmaking and stretch your imagination as you design your own t-shirt, transform vegetables into stamps, and discover how light can be used to make a print! In just one week, you’ll be a printmaker extraordinaire.

7th – 9th Grade | Makers for Social Change

Use your creativity to make the world a better place. Discover the power of expression, symbolism, and community as you collaborate with fellow makers to design self-published-zines, silk screen design, and work with an artist to create a large-scale installation that brings people together both at KID Museum and in the community. SSL hours may be available for portions of this camp.

July 24 - 28

2nd – 4th Grade | Transportation Nation

Start your engines, hop on board, and make way! All week long you’ll design and build planes, trains, automobiles, and more using a variety of maker skills and materials. How fast, high, or far will your creations travel?

5th – 7th Grade | Dig it Up: Museum Makers

It’s time to uncover the past. Explore what it means to be an archaeologist as you make your own excavation tools, design wearable dinosaur footprints, and construct your own archaeological mini-exhibit, all while getting hands-on with a variety of tools and materials. Can you dig it?

July 31 - August 4

2nd – 4th Grade | Tinker with Time

Are you ready to step backward and leap forward in time? Together, we’ll explore science and technology across time itself. From simple machines of the third century to today’s modern 3D printers to what the future might hold… Makers will discover just how art and technology have transformed the world over millennia.

5th – 7th Grade | Toy Hackers

Ready to get hacking? Give used toys a new lease on life by cracking them open, harvesting parts, and re-engineering new, one-of-a-kind creations! The possibilities are endless as you develop skills in electronics, soldering, design, sewing, and more as you hack together your own unique toys.

August 7 - 11

2nd – 4th Grade | Construction Crew

Grab your hard hat and let’s get building! Explore construction tools and technologies through building challenges both big and small. From designing earthquake resistant structures to innovating new excavation equipment, this is no ordinary job site. Are you ready to join our crew?

5th – 7th Grade | Miniature Makers

Grab your magnifying glass and see if you can spot our Miniature Makers! It’s time to miniaturize your maker skills as we design buildings, furniture, figurines, and more at a teensy, tiny scale. Small projects, big ideas. What will you make mini?

7th – 9th Grade | Maker Studio Deep Dive: Tech Lab

Circuitry, coding, 3D printing… oh my! Dive into all things tech. Designed for older makers, you’ll be soldering, wiring, and using logic to deconstruct, analyze, and combine electronics and other materials to create a project from scratch. It’s time to take your maker skills to the next level.

August 14 - 18

2nd – 4th Grade | Light it Up!

Ready to light up your summer? Get ready to stretch your imagination to the limit as we explore projects that glow, light up, and transform in the dark. We’ll use UV light to send secret messages, design custom lava lamps, and even create monsters that glow in the dark! Get ready to let your creativity shine.

5th – 7th Grade | Engineering Big

Put your engineering skills to the test. Through a series of larger-than-life problem-solving challenges, you’ll develop your skills as a designer and builder… From paper made out of furniture to perilous bridges… All leading up to the ultimate challenge: a collaborative, custom mini golf course. Do you have what it takes?

August 21 - 25

2nd – 4th Grade | Space KIDs

3… 2… 1… We have lift off! Explore the science behind NASA as you dive into the technology that scientists, astronauts, and aeronautical engineers use to explore the solar system. Practice 3D computer modeling, coding with sensors, and so much more. Shoot for the stars in your creations!

5th – 7th Grade | The Art of STEM

Take STEM full STEAM ahead! Explore how science, technology, engineering, and math can be applied to create unique pieces of art. Use flowers as pigments to dye clothes, design kinetic sculptures that move, and use math to create incredible designs and patterns. It’s time to discover how beautiful STEM can be.

Located at 6400 Democracy Blvd. Bethesda, MD 20817 in the lower-level of the Davis Library.
