Work closely with KID Museum staff to facilitate programming for kids age 4 - 14.

Teen Volunteers

KID Museum is looking for Teen Volunteers who enjoy working with kids and are interested in science, technology, art, design, math, or engineering.

You’ll support the work of KID Museum in our after-school programs, summer camps, and Sunday open museum hours.

Program Highlights:

  • Work closely with museum Maker Educators to facilitate hands-on programming for children ages 4 – 14.
  • Get trained in maker education, STEM and art programs, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Support fun and engaging maker-based activities for families.
  • Gain communication, leadership, and facilitation skills, as well as valuable work experience.
  • Earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.
  • Meet and work with other teens.

Program Information

The Basics

  • KID Museum Apprentices work closely with museum educators to facilitate hands-on programming for children ages 4 – 14
  • Apprentices are trained to teach STEM and art-related activities, and learn how to interact with museum visitors
  • Optional professional development sessions in a selected discipline (such as woodworking or 3D printing) are offered throughout the year

Time Commitment

  • Mandatory training sessions before your first shift
  • Fall & Spring: Minimum of 12 hours per month (broken down into 3 shifts)
  • Summer: Minimum of 20 hours per month
  • Minimum of one semester (Spring, Summer, or Fall)
  • During the school year, apprentices work on weekends during regular museum hours
  • In summer, apprentices have the option of being a camp assistant at our weekly camps

  • Fall: All current high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Spring: All current high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Summer: All current and rising high school students encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interest in working with kids
  • Interest in STEM, art, and creativity

Virtual Group Interviews: 
November 18 – 21 from 4:00-6:00 PM (30 minute interviews in groups of 3)

Onsite Training: 
Saturday, December 7 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
