SUMMER OF IMPACT

This summer, kids of all ages were back in person–making, inventing, and collaborating in summer camps, and in KID Museum programs delivered through MCPS and DCPS summer schools, Montgomery County camps and libraries, and community organizations. They will start the new school year strong, engaged and ready to dive in.

For educators heading into yet another school year filled with uncertainty, it takes courage just to go into the classroom every day. It takes even more courage to push the boundaries and imagine what comes next.

JOY, CONNECTION, AND
COLLECTIVE EFFERVESCENCE

Collective effervescence, as explained by Adam Grant in his recent opinion piece, is the joy people feel when coming together in a shared experience, like singing in a chorus or playing a game of soccer. But it’s also the exhilaration that a group experiences when working together to solve a problem. When kids collaborate to build a model electric-powered car, or design and prototype a new way to filter polluted water, they are experiencing collective effervescence.
