August Daily Camps

Rising 2nd – 7th Graders

August Daily Camps are the perfect antidote to those dog days of summer. Each day is a complete camp with its own theme or specialty, where kids can create, collaborate, and build amazing things.

Attend one day or attend them all.

9:00 – 4:00
Price: $75 members; $85 nonmembers

Please bring a bagged lunch (KID Museum is a nut-free facility).

Tuesday, August 22

Jurassic KIDs (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

Get prehistoric at KID. Discover the world of dinosaurs through making: create a live dinosaur habitat; make fossils; and construct dinosaur claws that really “grab” you.

Mechanical Sculptures (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Create a mechanical sculpture–an automaton–out of wood. Learn to use a drill, drill press, and other woodshop tools, and learn the mechanics of cams. Add an analog circuit (lights, sounds) to make your sculpture come alive.
Max 15 participants.

Wednesday, August 23

Aeronautica (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

4, 3, 2, 1… lift off! Leave the ground behind in this camp that’s all about flying, launching, and falling. Build and launch different types of rockets that function in different ways, including hand pump rockets, bouncy ball rockets, and falling copters. Max 15 participants.

KID Film School (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Become writer, director, and producer of your own movie! In this movie-production daily camp, you’ll storyboard your ideas, build sets, gain basic film and lighting skills, and learn to edit on iMovie. ACTION!

Life Aquatic (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

We’re going under the sea in this ocean-themed daily camp. Learn about bioluminescence and design your own “lantern” fish, make personalized scuba goggles, tackle a boat building challenge, and more.

Maker Camp: Textiles & Electronics (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Explore our Textiles and Electronics Maker Studios. Explore both circuits and sewing, working with inputs and outputs, using heatshrink for wires, and incorporating snaps and buttons in an electric textiles creation.

Space Camp (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

Blast off! Make your own intergalactic exploration helmet, design and launch rockets, and whip up some glowing galaxy slime.

Aquanauts (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Take a deep dive this August, and harness the power of water. Explore hydrodynamics by creating super soakers, mister mazes, giant bubbles and water rockets.

Creature Feature (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

Use KID Museum’s tools, materials and machines to build motorized creatures of your own design, learning about circuits and motors along the way. Then produce a “Creature Feature” movie starring your creations.

Arduino Programming (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Experience the power of an Arduino, a small but mighty microcontroller with infinite possibilities. Learn to use an Arduino board to control lights, motors and sounds. Develop skills in C++ programming. No prior experience required.
Max 15 participants.

Freaky Flowers (Rising 2nd – 4th Graders)

This is no garden-variety camp. Learn circuitry and woodshop skills as you create wooden spin wheels, electric party flowers, chia pet sculptures and bird feeders.

Maker Camp: Woodshop & Fab Lab (Rising 5th – 7th Graders)

Explore our Woodshop and Fab Lab Maker Studios. Master woodshop tools and skills, then head into the Fab Lab and learn to design your own objects for 3D printing.
Max 12 participants.
