Innovation Exchange

Invent the Future Challenge participants: join us for inspiration and mentorship!

Invent the Future Challenge participants are invited to KID Museum for Innovation Exchange sessions that will spark ideas and support Challenge work. Sessions begin with a presentation from an innovator, and then participants will be matched with mentors that we’ve selected from the local community.

Mentors provide feedback on ideas, assist in brainstorming new ideas, and help teams make progress on their designs. The focus is on coaching teams to effectively collaborate to develop new ideas, solve problems, and communicate their ideas to others, rather than providing specific technical support.

– Team coordinators and parents are welcome, but do not need to be present.
– All are welcome to attend just for the guest speaker (RSVP below).
– Interested in volunteering as a mentor? Contact us: volunteer@kid-museum.org.

Challenge Mentors

Experienced professionals will work with Challenge teams (3-6 middle school students per team), providing feedback on their ideas, asking probing questions, and assisting in the development of their projects. The goal of these working sessions is to help teams refine their project concept and effectively communicate their ideas to others. Each mentor will be matched with one Challenge team and work with them in a small group setting for approximately 1 hour.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one session, 4 – 6 pm, on February 9, March 16, or April 13. The session format is as follows:

  • 30 minutes of introduction and debrief before teams arrive
  • 30 minutes listening to featured speaker and Q&A
  • 1 hour working with Challenge teams

In advance of the session, we will provide a brief set of training materials to guide your work with a Challenge team.
