Kids EuroFestival: Snowflakes workshop
October 25, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Is it really true that no two snowflakes are alike? Scientists tell us it’s very unlikely. In this art workshop, you’ll get to test the theory by making your very own snowflakes — in all sorts of different designs! Finnish artist Heini Riitahuhta is a graduate of Helsinki’s University of Art and Design, and a designer for Finland Arabia, a company famous for its beautiful dishes and gifts. Heini will show you how to craft stunning snowflakes, using Finnish supplies including Stora Enso Lumi paper and Fiskars scissors and tools. In parts of Finland, it can start snowing as early as the end of August — and the snow doesn’t start melting until April! So Heini has seen lots of snow —in fact, you might call her a “snowflake expert”!
Please note that this workshop is offered free of charge; if you would like to visit KID Museum before or after the workshop, the admission charge of $8 per person will apply and is payable on site. This event is part of Kids Euro Festival (www.kidseurofestival.org), taking place throughout the Washington, DC area from October 24 to November 8. The largest children’s performing arts festival of its kind in the United States, Kids Euro Festival has annually offered more than 150 free events for children and their families since 2008. This Festival is presented by the 28 embassies of the European Union and more than 20 American cultural institutions, and is made possible by the European-American Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the EU Delegation to the United States, Washington Performing Arts, the DC Arts & Humanities Education Collaborative, and DC Public Libraries.
